SCCTLA Member Case Settlements
Congratulations to SCCTLA Members for their outstanding results.
John Shepardson: 683K Arbitration Award in the case of Chadd v. Hasnain
Jeff Janoff: $2.1 million arbitration award against Kaiser and on behalf of a 70 year old woman who had been on Coumadin for atrial fibrillation.
In 2008 she was mistakenly taken off of her Coumadin by her Kaiser physician. Three weeks later she suffered a massive stroke.
As a result she sustained a left sided brain injury. She is wheel chair bound and cannot communicate with her family.
She now requires 24/7 care. Initially the family brought a grievance against Kaiser on their own but they were told by Kaiser that it
was their mother's choice to go off Coumadin and denied any wrongdoing. Janoff took the case and through medical experts showed that
stopping Coumadin was below the standard of care and was the cause of her stroke.
John L. Stein and Terry O'Reilly: $5.1 million settlement against PG&E in a case involving the wrongful death of a 21 year old college
student back in 2006. The case involved a PG&E employee who went into a diabetic shock while driving a company truck. He lost control
and veered off the road, striking three cars waiting at a traffic signal. The cars exploded, killing two students and injuring seven others.
